Wendell, ID (August 19, 2024) – A fatal three-vehicle crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police (ISP) after an incident that took place southwest of Wendell.
On Sunday at approximately 5:35 p.m., ISP troopers responded to the scene at 3287 South 1500 East. The crash involved a 2001 Chevrolet S Truck, driven by a 36-year-old man from Wendell, Idaho, and a 2006 Honda CRF450R motorcycle, driven by a 19-year-old male from Utah. The Honda also carried an 18-year-old female passenger from Wendell.
The Chevrolet was reportedly making a left-hand turn when it collided with the southbound motorcycle. The force of the crash pushed the Honda into an unoccupied 2004 Dodge Stratus parked in the West Point lot at 3287 S 1500 E. The driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Officials say the female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. Gooding County Sheriff's Office, Wendell Rural Fire Department, and Gooding County EMS assisted at the scene. However, the crash remains under investigation.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased woman. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time.
Deadly Motorcycle Accidents in Idaho
A leisurely motorcycle journey can be rapidly transformed into a calamity by an accident. The Idaho Transportation Department reported that 1,759 motorcycle accidents, resulting in 121 fatalities and 1,426 injuries, have occurred in Idaho over the past several years. In the past year, Idaho was the site of 356 motorcycle accidents, resulting in the deaths of 23 individuals and the infliction of 297 injuries.
Motorcycle accidents frequently result in severe and occasionally permanent injuries that have far-reaching repercussions on an individual's life. Tragically, and even more frequently, motorcycle accidents result in the loss of life, leaving their mourning families to reconstruct their lives.
Idaho follows the traditional fault-based system for determining liability for monetary losses and damages resulting from motor vehicle incidents, which also includes motorcycle accidents. A comparative negligence system determines liability for motorcycle accidents in Idaho. Following their actions before the accident, each individual engaged in the accident has been assigned a percentage of responsibility. The monetary compensation an individual receives in return is determined by the percentage in question.
