Twin Falls, ID – Two Hospitalized in Truck Accident on I-84 near Jerome

Posted by Attorneys of Idaho | Aug 09, 2024 | 0 Comments

Twin Falls, ID (August 9, 2024) – Troopers with the Idaho State Police (ISP) are investigating a Friday, August 9, collision between trucks hauling molasses and manure on a southern Idaho interstate.

According to police, at about 2:15 p.m., a 26-year-old male from Wendell, Idaho, and a juvenile passenger were traveling eastbound on Interstate 84, east of Jerome, in a 1998 Freightliner semi-truck loaded with manure. A 49-year-old male from Clovis, California, was traveling in a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck loaded with 48,000 pounds of cane molasses and struck the rear of the 1998 Freightliner.

Due to the collision, about 1,000 pounds of molasses was spilled. The 1998 Freightliner came to rest in the center median and caught on fire. The driver and juvenile passenger in the truck hauling manure were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. The left lane eastbound of Interstate 84 was blocked for approximately four and a half hours, though the incident is still under investigation by Idaho State Police.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete recovery.

Semi-Truck Collisions in Idaho

Millions of semi-trucks and big rigs traverse America's roadways at any given time, particularly given the rise of online commerce and global shipments in the modern economy. Unfortunately, around 159,000 individuals were hurt in truck-related incidents in one recent year alone, with 5,000 of them losing their lives. A typical semi-truck weighs more than 10,000 pounds. Large trucks have bigger blind spots and need more time to stop than vehicles. Add in human error from drivers, who often put in lengthy hours behind the wheel, and the possibility of disastrous crashes increases significantly.

You'll undoubtedly have many questions about the accident, injuries received, medical bills, and other expenditures if you or someone you know is in a trucking accident. These are some frequently asked questions about trucking accidents. After all, tractor-trailer and large truck accidents are typically much more serious than an average vehicle crash, so it's essential to have an advocate in the aftermath.
