Thatcher, ID (September 12, 2024) – A 56-year-old man was killed, and a 46-year-old woman was critically injured in a motorcycle crash that took place Wednesday morning, September 11, in southeast Idaho. The accident occurred around 10:00 a.m. along State Highway 34 in Thatcher.
According to the Idaho State Police, the man and woman from Soda Springs were traveling southbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle along SH-34. At the same time, a Chevy pickup truck driven by an 82-year-old man from Thatcher was traveling northbound on SH-34. The truck failed to yield the right of way, making a left turn onto Thatcher Road and hitting the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The female passenger sustained critical injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a hospital. Police did not report whether the man or woman were wearing helmets, though the driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.
Idaho State Police were assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Franklin County Fire District, and Franklin County Ambulance. The identities of the man and woman from Soda Springs have not been released pending notification of the family. It's unclear if citations or charges are pending, but the incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased man's family. Our thoughts are with the injured woman in hopes of her full recovery.
