Pollack, ID - Two Hospitalized After Truck Accident on US Hwy 95

Pollack, ID (August 11, 2024) – Troopers with the Idaho State Police say that a multi-vehicle crash in Idaho involving a semi-truck sent one driver to the hospital via Life Flight. According to ISP officers, just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Idaho State Police (ISP) troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 95.

Authorities say that during the investigation, it was determined that a Ford Taurus going southbound on Highway 95 was involved in a collision with a semi-truck pulling a box trailer. The driver of the Ford Taurus sustained serious injuries in the collision and the driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital via Life Flight helicopters.

Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-truck was transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. Police say that alcohol and drugs are considered to be a factor in the crash, and the ISP further stated the accident closed the roadway in both directions for approximately five hours. However, the police investigation remains active and ongoing in the interim, and no additional details were released.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their family members.

Semi-Truck Collisions in Idaho

Due to the proliferation of online commerce and global shipments, America's roadways are constantly traversed by millions of semi-trucks and big trailers, particularly in the contemporary economy. Regrettably, approximately 159,000 individuals were injured in truck-related incidents in a single year, with 5,000 of them succumbing to their injuries. A semi-truck typically weighs more than 10,000 pounds. Large lorries require more time to halt than vehicles and have larger blind areas. The likelihood of catastrophic accidents is substantially elevated by factoring in human error from drivers, who frequently spend extended periods operating vehicles.

Of course, head-on collisions are particularly severe when they involve a large commercial vehicle, like a semi.  The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reported 3,558,000 collisions in a single year in which the front of the car was the initial point of impact or a head-on collision. Regrettably, 63% of the fatalities among occupants in passenger vehicles were the result of these types of frontal impacts.

For instance, when two vehicles collide head-on at a speed of 25 miles per hour, the intensity of the impact is comparable to that of a 50-mile-per-hour collision. The pace of the vehicles is multiplied by the force. It is not surprising that head-on vehicle collisions frequently lead to a variety of psychological and physical consequences, including high medical expenses, lost income, diminished earning potential, and more. The insurance claim is typically processed by the auto insurance provider of the at-fault motorist following an accident. Nevertheless, this may prove to be considerably more difficult than anticipated for victims if the injuries are severe, catastrophic, or even fatal.
