Heyburn, ID (May 17, 2024) – On Thursday, May 16, at around 12:30 p.m., troopers with the Idaho State Police responded to a serious accident on westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 213, east of Heyburn.
The collision involved a semi-truck and multiple other vehicles, resulting in one fatality. ISP authorities stated that a 60-year-old man from Cleveland, TN, was driving a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer westbound on Interstate 84. The semi-truck failed to yield to slowing traffic in a construction zone, causing a chain-reaction crash involving five other vehicles. The driver of a 2017 Ford pickup, one of the five cars involved, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A passenger from the same vehicle and the driver of another pickup truck were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. No further details were released in the meantime, but an inquiry remains ongoing.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased victim's family. Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their complete recovery.
Fatal Truck Accidents in Idaho
Throughout the United States, there are around 40 million trucks on our roadways at any given time. Unfortunately, around 159,000 individuals were hurt in truck-related incidents in one recent year alone, with 5,000 of them losing their lives. A typical semi-truck weighs more than 10,000 pounds. Large trucks have bigger blind spots and need more time to stop than vehicles. Add in human error from drivers, who often put in lengthy hours behind the wheel, and the possibility of disastrous crashes increases significantly.
You'll undoubtedly have many questions about the accident, injuries received, medical bills, and other expenditures if you or someone you know is in a trucking accident. These are some frequently asked questions about trucking accidents. After all, tractor-trailer and large truck accidents are typically much more serious than an average vehicle crash, so it's essential to have an advocate in the aftermath.
