On Thursday, May 15, 2025, a fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 84 near Heyburn, Idaho, resulting in one death and multiple injuries. The incident took place around 12:22 p.m. at milepost 213 and involved a semi-truck and several passenger vehicles.

Sequence of Events

According to the Idaho State Police, a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 60-year-old man from Cleveland, Tennessee, was traveling westbound on I-84 when it failed to slow down for traffic in a construction zone. The semi-truck collided with a 2017 Ford pickup driven by a 53-year-old man from Cody, Wyoming. The impact caused a chain reaction involving four other vehicles: a 2004 Ford F-350, a 2023 Kia Sorento, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, and a 2010 GMC Yukon.

Casualties and Injuries

The driver of the 2017 Ford pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, along with the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Emergency responders, including the Idaho State Police, arrived promptly at the scene. The westbound lanes of I-84 were closed for approximately five and a half hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.
