Bingham County, ID (August 12, 2024) – According to local authorities, Paul R. Dreher, 24, of Blackfoot, died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Weeding Lane in the area of 62 East, which is located about a half-mile east of Highway 91 in Bingham County.

Authorities said that deputies with the Bingham County Sheriff's Office, around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, received the report of a pedestrian and vehicle accident in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies learned that Dreher was struck by a white 1997 Jeep Wrangler that was being driven by a 50-year-old woman from Blackfoot.

Dreher was transported via an Air Idaho emergency helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with severe, life-threatening injuries, and the driver was transported by ground ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital with possible minor injuries, authorities added.  Dreher succumbed to his injuries a few hours later, the sheriff's office confirmed. Local authorities asked the Idaho State Police to perform a crash reconstruction of the incident and continue investigating the incident in the interim.

We offer our deepest condolences to Paul R. Dreher's family members. Our thoughts and best wishes for a full recovery go out to the injured victim.

Pedestrian Accidents in Idaho

Across the state of Idaho, there has been a sizable increase in pedestrian accidents, and the fact that these incidents have the strong potential to be deadly or to result in serious harm to those involved adds insult to injury. A pedestrian accident occurs when a car, bike, or scooter strikes a person on foot. The person on foot often takes the brunt of the impact since there is no buffer to protect them.

Even while it would appear clear that a car's driver is liable for these incidents, others could also be at fault. For example, a vehicle's manufacturer or service provider may be at fault if a faulty part causes a driver's brakes to fail. Holding local authorities responsible for issues like poorly lit roadways or insufficient maintenance is also possible.

Regardless, pedestrian accidents may result in a variety of injuries. Typical injuries sustained in these incidents are as follows:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Back or spinal wounds
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Bone breaks and fractures
  • Superficial injuries and cuts, such as bruises

Even worse, due to their increased vulnerability, children and the elderly often sustain more severe injuries in these incidents, making the aftermath of these accidents even more complex and frustrating to cope with. Thankfully, our knowledgeable pedestrian accident attorneys at Attorneys of Idaho are here to help and counsel you throughout the process of a claim, ensuring you know your rights and choices.
