Ashton, ID (June 16, 2024) – A deadly crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 20 north of Ashton in Fremont County and resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man, according to state police.

The crash occurred after the 65-year-old man, who was driving a Toyota Matrix with two passengers, an 86-year-old woman and a 66-year-old woman, collided for unknown reasons with a UPS semi-truck, state police confirmed. The semi-truck was driven by a 37-year-old man from Billings, Montana.

The driver of the Toyota was transported via air ambulance, and his passengers were transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital. The Matrix driver later died as a result of his injuries while at the hospital. Lanes were blocked for approximately three hours while emergency responders worked to assist those on the scene and clear the area. The investigation remains ongoing in the interim, and witnesses were asked to come forward.
