Spencer, ID (July 29, 2024) – Authorities reported that two Utahns riding a motorcycle in Idaho were killed in a crash on Sunday, and Idaho State Police troopers have now released further details in connection with the incident.
According to a press release, the vehicle accident happened on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 at approximately 10:50 a.m. Police said the motorcycle, driven by a 69-year-old man from Farr West, Utah, collided with another vehicle in the left lanes of the highway.
Idaho police reported a 60-year-old woman, also from Farr West, was on the motorcycle and died from her injuries at the crash. The man was transported to a nearby hospital by air ambulance and ultimately died on Monday. It’s unclear if anybody else was hurt in the accident, though ISP troopers are still investigating and have not released details about the events leading up to the collision. Detectives assigned to the inquiry are currently asking for witness statements.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victims.
Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Idaho
An accident can rapidly transform a carefree motorcycle ride into a tragedy. Over the last several years, the Idaho Transportation Department reported that 1,759 motorcycle wrecks occurred in Idaho, leading to 121 fatalities and 1,426 injuries. Idaho was the site of 356 motorcycle incidents in one recent year alone, which claimed the lives of 23 individuals and caused 297 injuries.
A motorcycle collision often ends in serious, sometimes permanent, injuries that have far-reaching consequences for an individual’s life. Tragically, and even more frequently, motorcyclists die in collisions, leaving their devastated families to pick up the pieces of their lives.
Idaho adheres to the conventional fault-based system in determining liability for monetary losses and damages arising from motor vehicle collisions, which also encompasses motorcycle accidents. In Idaho, a comparative negligence system determines liability for a motorcycle accident. Each person involved in the accident has ascribed a percentage of culpability in accordance with their conduct preceding the incident. The percentage in question establishes the monetary compensation that an individual is entitled to receive in return.
