Twin Falls, ID – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-84 Causes Major Traffic Delays, Detours in Place

Posted by Mejra Memisevic | Nov 05, 2024 | 0 Comments

Twin Falls, ID (October 30, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 84 has led to significant disruptions and traffic delays in both directions between Kimberly and Valley Road. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has closed all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 in this area, estimating that it may take 5-6 hours to fully clear the scene and reopen the roadway. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes and exercise caution when driving near the accident site.

Traffic Detours and Suggested Routes by ITD

The Idaho Transportation Department has provided two primary detours for affected drivers:

  • Westbound traffic is being rerouted at Exit 173.
  • Eastbound traffic is being rerouted at Exit 165.

Alternative Routes for Twin Falls Travelers

Motorists traveling east from Twin Falls to destinations like Burley, Rupert, or Salt Lake City are advised to take Kimberly Road to Exit 182, which provides a clear and safe route. Those heading west toward Boise may consider taking Highway 30 through Buhl and Hagerman before rejoining I-84 at the Bliss exit.

Early Reports and Current Status of the Crash

Initial investigations indicate that the crash began when a semi-truck carrying concert equipment struck a stalled vehicle on westbound I-84. Tragically, the driver of the stalled vehicle was killed. While Idaho State Police (ISP) are managing the scene, ITD reports that one eastbound lane may be opened soon to alleviate traffic flow, while the westbound lanes will likely remain closed for the next 4-5 hours as the investigation continues.

Our thoughts go out to the family of the deceased.

Understanding Liability in Multi-Vehicle and Commercial Vehicle Accidents

Accidents involving semi-trucks or commercial vehicles often lead to severe or fatal outcomes due to the weight and size of these trucks. In Idaho, determining liability in a multi-vehicle accident can be complex, especially in cases involving commercial vehicles and stalled cars. Victims may be entitled to compensation for injuries, damages, or losses sustained due to another party's negligence, but the involvement of multiple vehicles often requires a thorough investigation to assign liability accurately.

When a vehicle stalls on a high-speed roadway like I-84, drivers are at an increased risk of being struck by approaching vehicles. Commercial drivers and trucking companies are expected to take precautions to avoid accidents with stalled or disabled vehicles, and failing to do so may open avenues for legal recourse.
