Grandview, ID (February 20, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to another. The incident took place at approximately 6:10 a.m. on State Highway 167 (SH167) at milepost 6.3, north of Grandview.

Accident Details

According to the Idaho State Police (ISP), a 2023 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 32-year-old male from Istanbul, Türkiye, was traveling northbound on SH167. The driver attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, resulting in a head-on collision with a southbound 2025 Western Star Cattle Hauler semi-truck, operated by a 70-year-old male from Mountain Home.

Injuries and Fatalities

  • Nissan Rogue: The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

  • Western Star Cattle Hauler: The semi-truck driver sustained injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.

Traffic Impact

The collision led to the blockage of SH167 for approximately five hours as emergency responders worked to clear the scene and conduct a thorough investigation. The roadway has since been reopened to normal traffic.

Investigation Ongoing

The Idaho State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver's decision to pass in a no-passing zone was a contributing factor. No further details have been released at this time.

Legal Implications of Illegal Passing Maneuvers

Attempting to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone is a serious traffic violation that can lead to catastrophic outcomes. Such actions not only endanger the driver but also pose significant risks to other road users. Determining liability in these cases involves analyzing driver behavior, adherence to traffic laws, and the specific circumstances leading up to the collision.

Rights of Injured Parties and Families

Individuals injured in such accidents, as well as families of those who have lost their lives, may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and other related damages.
